Thierry Henry has claimed that he already knows the identity of the future manager of the French national team.
Didier Deschamps, the current head coach, recently announced that he would step down after the 2026 World Cup, bringing to an end 14 years in charge of Les Bleus.
Speaking during an online press conference for CBS, the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker suggested that the name of the next France boss is already an open secret.
“We all know who the new manager will be. You know it and I know it. And I wish him the very best,” he said during a discussion with fellow former players Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards.
Henry was referring to Zinedine Zidane who is the favourite to take over from Deschamps. Since leaving Real Madrid in May 2021, Zidane has not returned to management, but he has long coveted the France job.
At an Adidas event last May, the former midfielder said: “I feel legitimate in the French national team, where I played and spent almost 12, 13, or 14 years as a player. Of course, it’s a dream. I can’t wait.“
Despite being linked with several high-profile managerial posts in recent years, Zidane has consistently turned them down, keeping himself available for the France role.
