Microsoft will invest $15 billion in the United Arab Emirates over the next seven years, following the Trump administration’s announcement that Nvidia will be allowed to export its chips to the country.
The Middle Eastern nation is spending billions in its bid to become a hub for artificial intelligence and continues to strengthen its ties with Washington to secure access to the most advanced technologies and chips on the market.
“The biggest share of the investment, by far, both looking back and looking forward, is the expansion of AI data centres across the UAE,” Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith said in an interview.
The US tech giant invested $1.5 billion last year and took a minority stake in Abu Dhabi-based company G42, which previously collaborated with China.
By the end of this year, Microsoft will have invested a total of $7.3 billion since 2023.
