A group of researchers has found that Polish is the language most accurately understood by artificial intelligence, while English only ranks sixth.
Among the 26 languages tested, Polish proved to generate the most effective prompts for chatbots, according to a study conducted by the University of Maryland (UMD) and Microsoft.
“Our experiment yielded some surprising and unintuitive findings. Firstly, English did not perform best across all models, in fact, it came sixth out of 26 languages when longer texts were assessed, while Polish proved to be the leading language,” the study’s authors wrote.
The research team tested multiple languages across several AI models, including OpenAI, Google Gemini, Qwen, Llama and DeepSeek. The results showed that Polish achieved an average accuracy rate of 88% in completing assigned tasks.
“As the analysis shows, it is the most precise language for issuing commands to artificial intelligence. Until now, Polish was widely considered one of the most difficult languages to learn. As it turns out, humans struggle with it but AI does not,” the Polish Patent Office wrote on Facebook.
French and Italian completed the top three, ahead of Spanish, Russian and English.
