China has stepped up border controls on chip imports as the country seeks to distance its companies from products manufactured in the United States.
Across the nation, customs teams have increased inspections of semiconductor shipments, several sources told the Financial Times.
The checks are intended to discourage Chinese firms from purchasing American-made chips, the sources explained.
Beijing’s tightening of measures aims to push domestic companies to buy directly from the local market, giving fresh momentum to China’s semiconductor industry.
The country is also planning to triple its production of advanced semiconductors to offset imports of Nvidia chips.
