Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced the rollout of paid subscriptions in the UK that allow users to remove ads from their news feeds.
The company said users will be notified in the coming weeks about these options and whether they wish to subscribe.
European users already have the option to pay €5.99 per month to block ads, while UK subscriptions will start at £2.99.
“It will give people in the UK a clear choice about whether their data is used for personalised advertising, while preserving the free access and value that the ads-supported internet creates for people, businesses and platforms,” Meta said.
In the UK, the subscription will cost £2.99 per month on desktop and £3.99 per month on iOS and Android apps.
