A research group has claimed that Liverpool have a 28.9% chance of winning the Premier League this season.

The Merseyside club lifted the English title last season under manager Arne Slot, finishing ahead of Arsenal.

According to the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory, Liverpool are the favourites to lift the trophy again, ahead of Arsenal (18.8%) and Chelsea (16.2%).

Elsewhere in Europe, CIES predicts Celtic are strong favourites to claim the Scottish Premiership title ahead of rivals Rangers.

In Spain, Real Madrid (40.6%) are seen as most likely to win La Liga, while Barcelona have just a 29.6% chance of retaining their crown. In Serie A, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli are rated as the leading contenders for the title.

The CIES Football Observatory developed a statistical model to forecast which clubs are most likely to win domestic titles across 29 different leagues.

The model takes into account sporting, demographic and economic variables, as well as several other factors, to generate its predictions.
