A worldwide outage affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers has paralysed many major websites, including Snapchat, Reddit and Roblox.
More than 1,000 apps and websites, including Lloyds and Halifax, experienced issues linked to the US tech giant, according to Downdetector.
Around 6.5 million users reported difficulties on Monday morning. While AWS has since resolved the problem, some experts have criticised large companies for relying on a single service provider.
“So many online services rely upon third parties for their physical infrastructure, and this shows that problems can occur in even the largest of those third-party providers. Small errors, often human made, can have widespread and significant impact,” said Professor Alan Woodward of the University of Surrey.
Within just a few hours, more than four million outage reports were logged, Downdetector told the BBC.
