The leaders of the United Kingdom, France and Germany have agreed to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine to help fund its military efforts.
In a statement published on the German government’s website, the three leaders said the move would be carried out in coordination with the United States.
“We are ready to progress towards using, in a coordinated way, the value of the immobilised Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine’s armed forces and thus bring Russia to the negotiation table,” Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz said.
“We aim to do this in close cooperation with the United States of America,” they added.
US President Donald Trump had previously urged European leaders to take such action to fund “Ukraine’s defence“, as peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow remain at a standstill.
