Denmark has announced a ban on civilian drone flights this week to ensure the security of the European summit bringing together heads of state in Copenhagen.
The move follows the closure of several airports after unidentified drones were spotted in Danish airspace. The government suggested the incidents may have originated from Russia, an allegation the Kremlin has denied.
“Denmark will be hosting European leaders next week, and we will be paying particular attention to security. Therefore, from Monday to Friday, we will be closing Danish airspace to all civilian drone flights,” Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen said in a statement.
The summit is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in the Danish capital. The minister said the measure was intended to support the work of local authorities and the police.
Police confirmed on Saturday that they had received more than 500 reports of drone activity.
