Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Vladimir Putin is preparing to attack another European country, arguing that recent Russian drone incursions are being used to test NATO’s defence systems.
Speaking from Kyiv after his meeting with Donald Trump at the United Nations in New York, the Ukrainian president said Russia was getting ready to expand the conflict.
“Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. He will open up some other direction. Nobody knows where. He wants that,” he explained.
Zelenskyy said the Kremlin was deliberately testing Europe’s ability to protect its airspace, pointing to recent sightings of Russian drones over Denmark, Romania and Poland, as well as fighter jets violating Estonian airspace.
He added that European governments are struggling to respond to this new threat.
His comments came after talks with Trump in the US, during which the American president said Ukraine has the capacity to retake all the territory captured by Russia since the beginning of the war.
