Albania has decided to turn to artificial intelligence in an effort to eradicate corruption in the country, despite resistance from some members of parliament.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama introduced Diella as a new member of the government in the middle of last week.
However, this move is more symbolic than official, as the Albanian constitution states that ministers must be at least 18 years old and mentally competent.
Rama explained that Diella, which means “sun” in Albanian, will be tasked with eliminating corruption.
“We’re working with a brilliant team, which is not only Albanian but also international, to come out with the first full AI model in public procurement,” the prime minister told the BBC. “Not only will we wipe out every potential influence on public biddings, we will also make the process much faster, much more efficient and totally accountable.“
Diella had already been working with the government before being “officially” recognised as a full member.
