Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned an Israeli strike that targeted a Hamas delegation during a meeting in Doha.

Dr Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for the ministry, described the long-distance strike as a “blatant violation” of international law and a threat to national security.

“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings housing several members of the Political Bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha,” the ministry said in a statement posted on X.

A Hamas official confirmed to the BBC that the delegation had indeed been the target of what he called a “precise strike”, a claim later acknowledged by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF said measures had been taken to minimise collateral damage.

The strike came shortly after Hamas’s armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for a shooting that killed six people on Monday in the Jerusalem suburb of Ramot.

“The Al-Qassam Brigades announces its responsibility for the shooting attack that took place yesterday (Monday) morning … near the Ramot settlement junction, which lies on the lands of our beloved Jerusalem,” the group wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.
