Nvidia and Deutsche Telekom are joining forces to launch a “sovereign AI factory” in Germany, with an investment worth €1 billion.
The US chip giant and the German telecommunications leader jointly announced plans to open the facility in the first quarter of 2026, a €1 billion project aimed at developing a domestic AI industry and reducing dependence on Chinese and US markets.
The CEOs of both companies unveiled the project in Berlin, describing it as an initiative to create “a secure and powerful sovereign infrastructure” that will use “AI in every manufacturing application” across all types of businesses.
The computing centre will be based in Munich, housed in a data facility built by Deutsche Telekom.
The initiative is part of Germany’s national “Made 4 Germany” strategy, designed to strengthen the country’s competitiveness and attractiveness while helping it catch up in the digital transformation of its economy.
