Donald Trump has urged Vladimir Putin to end the war rather than “testing missiles“, after the Russian president announced the successful trial of the Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile.
The former US president criticised Putin’s comments praising the missile’s success, calling instead for a renewed focus on peace efforts in Ukraine.
“He [Putin] should get the war ended. A war that should have taken a week is now soon in its fourth year. That’s what he should do instead of testing missiles,” Trump said aboard Air Force One.
The missile test comes as Moscow reiterated it would not bow to pressure from Washington, following Trump’s recent announcement of sanctions against two Russian oil companies.
“They’re not playing games with us, and we’re not playing games with them either. We test missiles all the time,” the American president added.
