More than 50,000 people took to the streets of Valencia one year after the deadly floods that devastated the southern Spanish city.
Protesters, some holding portraits of the victims, called for the resignation of Carlos Mazón, president of the Valencian regional government, over his slow response to the disaster.
Local authorities were heavily criticised for failing to issue flood alerts even after the severe weather had begun.
Despite the warnings, Mazón reportedly spent several hours dining with a journalist on the day of the catastrophe.
A poll published in the national newspaper El País found that 71% of respondents believe Mazón should step down.
Residents of the Valencia region also pointed out that most of those who lost their lives in the floods were over the age of 70.
