Two suspects connected to last week’s jewellery theft at the Louvre Museum have been arrested, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
One of the men was detained as he attempted to board a flight from Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The robbery, valued at more than €88 million, took place over the weekend when a group of thieves broke into the museum and escaped with a significant haul in under seven minutes.
According to several police sources cited by local media, one suspect was preparing to travel to Algeria, while the other was bound for Mali.
The Paris prosecutor criticised the premature release of information about the heist, saying it had hindered the investigation.
Following the robbery, the Louvre moved some of its most valuable jewels to the Bank of France for safekeeping.
