The European Union and Ukraine are currently drafting a new ceasefire proposal aimed at ending the war with Russia, which began in February 2022.

A senior European diplomat said the plan includes the creation of a peace committee to be chaired by Donald Trump, which would oversee the implementation of the proposal.

It’s an effort by the national security advisers to keep the United States on board,” the diplomat explained.

Ukrainian leaders on Tuesday urged Washington to maintain its call for an immediate ceasefire and a freeze on current frontlines, which would serve as a foundation for future negotiations.

Around 35 nations are expected to meet in London this Friday for a summit, as the US president and Vladimir Putin may hold talks in the coming weeks.

Three other diplomats confirmed that peace proposals were being drafted, with one noting that the plan could mirror the framework used for Gaza.
