Nintendo has accused James Williams, a moderator on the Reddit platform, of selling thousands of pirated games through a subreddit.
In July 2024, the Japanese gaming giant filed a lawsuit against one of the moderators of the r/SwitchPirates subreddit. Nintendo is now seeking $4.5 million in damages from Williams, whom it accuses of selling pirated versions of its Nintendo Switch games.
Williams, known online under the pseudonym “Archbox“, has not responded to the lawsuit and failed to appear when summoned.
The company has been fighting piracy of its games for the past two years, and Williams is alleged to have sold thousands of illegal “keys” to emulation websites, platforms that allow users to play games without owning them.
