MI6 has launched a portal on the dark web designed to recruit spies for the United Kingdom.

The messaging platform, called Silent Courier, aims to strengthen national security by facilitating the recruitment of agents in Russia and across the globe.

UK foreign secretary Yvette Cooper said: “As the world changes, and the threats we’re facing multiply, we must ensure the UK is always one step ahead of our adversaries.

Silent Courier, which went live last week, allows individuals to submit sensitive information securely to the foreign intelligence service.

Speaking at a press conference, MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore said: “Today we’re asking those with sensitive information on global instability, international terrorism or hostile state intelligence activity to contact MI6 securely online.

Moore, who is due to step down on 1 October and be succeeded by Blaise Metreweli, also stated that there was no “evidence” Vladimir Putin intends to end the war in Ukraine, accusing the Russian leader of misleading the world.
