On the second evening of the opening matchday of the Champions League, the heavyweights came out on top.

The clash between Olympiakos and Pafos, playing their first ever match in the competition, ended in a goalless 0–0 draw. There was also a stalemate between Slavia Prague and Bodø/Glimt (2-2).

The big clubs all made winning starts to their campaigns: Inter Milan beat Ajax Amsterdam 2–0 in the Netherlands, while Bayern Munich saw off Chelsea 3–1.

Liverpool snatched all three points late on against Atlético Madrid in a 3–2 thriller, while Paris Saint-Germain cruised past Atalanta Bergamo with an emphatic 4–0 win at home.
