A study conducted by researchers has revealed that the time at which people eat breakfast can have a real impact on their health.

According to Dr Hassan Dashti, a nutrition scientist and circadian biologist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, the timing of breakfast can serve as an indicator of a person’s overall health.

Dr Dashti also suggests that this factor could help detect early signs of both physical and mental health issues.

To reach these conclusions, Dr Dashti’s team analysed data from 3,000 adults in the United Kingdom, with an average age of 64.

Participants were asked to record the time of each meal and complete health and lifestyle surveys over several years.

The researchers found that, as people get older, they tend to eat breakfast and other meals later in the day, a pattern also seen among those with health problems or a tendency to go to bed late.

As a result, eating breakfast late in the morning was associated with mental and physical health conditions, including fatigue, depression and anxiety.
