Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused Poland of spreading “myths” about a reported incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

In a statement published on its website, the ministry insisted that Russia had no intention of targeting Polish territory.

“These concrete facts completely debunk the myths once again spread by Poland to further escalate the Ukrainian crisis,” the ministry said.

However, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski maintained he was “sure” that the drone flights into Polish airspace had been deliberate. The drones were reportedly shot down by Polish and NATO defence forces.

Speaking to journalists, Sikorski added: “Russian drones have veered into Polish airspace before, not just drones but also cruise missiles. When one or two drones do it, it is possible it was a technical malfunction. But there were 19 breaches, and it simply defies imagination that this was accidental.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump admitted he did not understand Russia’s intentions, as the US president is prepared to meet his Polish counterpart on Wednesday.
